01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Part of the pleasure of ordering skewers here is choosing among different cuts: liver, tongue, heart, cheek, spleen, rectum and white cartilage, each listed at 90 yen. One diner recalled ordering cheek, tongue and heart, along with spleen and catfish skewers, and found the skewers generously sized for the price. Another was struck by the substantial portion of tongue and the catfish skewer, whose flavour reminded them of white fish. Try a few familiar cuts, then add one that catches your eye to get a sense of the range.

For something beyond grilled offal, the menu also lists a Gunma wild boar skewer, seared Mie venison and wild boar and venison tofu. One diner described the seared venison as tender. The “Beast Set”, which is available in limited quantities, costs 2,500 yen before tax and includes 2 kinds of game skewers and hunter-style grilled meat, among other dishes. It requires a phone reservation at least two days in advance for parties of 3 or more.

Drinks include white and black Hoppy, a Baizu sour, draft beer, Akaboshi bottled beer and highballs. Hoppy or a sour suits a few rounds of skewers; for a more substantial finish, consider the salt offal Chinese noodles. White rice, a simmered tofu bowl and a soft-boiled egg and kimchi bowl round out the choices, whether the evening is centred on drinks or a full meal.
